Question13:
Rafaello Sanzio's famous fresco of the School of Athens for the Vatican portrays 17 philosophers on the steps of an ancient Greek building. I'm sure there are very few people who could name them all & experts disagree in the attribution of some of the peripheral figures anyway. I will include the most commonly agreed identification in the answer, but my question is: four of the philosophers are actually portraits of artists contemporary to Rafaello including his self-portrait & here I will offer a clue- you should be able to find the portrait he did of himself even if you have no idea what he looked like because of something that applies generally to self-portraits. Can you spot the four artist/philosophers?
